EU batteries regulation takes effect 18 Aug 2025

  • From August 2025, all producers, importers, and distributors of batteries and products equipped with batteries will be obliged to follow harmonised rules on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) across the EU member states. Such responsibilities comprise financing collection and recycling, registration with national producer registers, regular EPR reporting, and compliance with new labeling and information requirements regarding chemistry and capacity as well as separate collection symbols. New EPR rules in California

  • California has adopted Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations across a very significant number of product categories such as packaging, batteries, textiles, paint, mattresses, carpets, and pharmaceuticals/sharps. The California EPR laws are administered by CalRecycle to register producers and enforce eco-fees plus reporting requirements. This new framework mandates financing by producers for collection and recycling with transparent EPR reporting that will explicitly detail the compliance cost in the prices of products. Companies placing covered products on the California market should carefully review obligations and join or even establish a PRO where required by law besides getting ready for an EPR compliance audit which is more stringent under CalRecycle rules.

France streamlines 2026 e-invoicing

  • In September 2026, French companies must follow new regulations for business-to-business electronic invoicing and reporting. The French e-invoicing rule simplifies paperwork by requiring less data, eliminating zero-reporting needs, and offers gradual tax relief for businesses that haven’t established their VAT status until September 2027. Companies must start preparing for mandatory e-invoicing in France by making sure their ERP systems can create organized invoices that follow French reporting rules and connect with approved platforms. This reform reduces paper usage, aids in digital adherence, and facilitates the smooth introduction of France’s electronic invoice system for all companies.

Croatia mandates e-invoicing 2026

  • Starting from January 2026, every taxpayer registered for VAT in Croatia must use electronic invoices and submit transaction reports immediately according to the country’s Fiscalization Law. Croatian’s new e-invoicing rule requires companies to make sure their billing software works properly, can create organized electronic bills, and link up with the country’s main system. Preparation ahead of mandatory Croatian electronic invoicing can prevent fines, streamline reports, and keep up with EU’s digital tax plans.

OECD Pillar Two: 15% minimum tax rolls out

  • The 15% global minimum corporate tax for large MNEs (>.€750m revenue) is now taking effect worldwide. OECD estimates about $220B in additional annual revenue, while the affected groups have to file GIR and calculate jurisdictional ETR (GloBE), with compliance costs increasing initially by about 20-30%. Pillar Two reporting in the first year will be made easier if data models, intercompany mapping, and control frameworks are prepared now.
